Frank and Perry opened a home wiring business in Anderson, Indiana and started to develop Remy Magneto. That marks the foundation of Remy Electric Company.
Fletcher Savings and Trust Company acquired Remy and began producing automotive starters.
The Remy brothers invented the first electric starter.
Billy Durant, founder of General Motors incorporates United Motors to consolidate his acquisitions of several small manufacturing companies, among others is Remy Electric Company and DELCO, which later merge into Delco Remy.
DELCO and Remy Electric Company is merged to form Delco Remy, a division of General Motors Corporation in Anderson, Indiana. Delco Remy operates as a division of General Motors.
After the US enters World War II in December of 1941 Delco Remy converts to 100% war production and produces 673 different products for the war effort during this time period. 40,000 different part numbers were needed to make these 673 models. Source: General Motors

Delco Remy Acquired: 1. Elmot, an Original equipment and aftermarket manufacturer in Poland, 2. XL Component Distribution Ltd., which includes four manufacturing locations in the UK, 3. Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) which remanufactures automatic transmissions, transaxles, and rotary engines for Mazda North American requirements, and 4. Dephi’s ownership interest in an alternator joint venture in China.
Delco Remy International, Inc. changed its corporate name to Remy International, Inc., marking its tenth anniversary as a separate company from General Motors Corporation.
BorgWarner acquired Remy International, Inc.
Torque Capital Investor Group purchased the North American and European light vehicle aftermarket business of Remy, Inc. from BorgWarner Inc. and opened its own European Distribution Center in Miskolc, Hungary. Later, Remy locates its European Operation center there as well.
Remy and Brake Parts Inc, Europe merge under the name BPI Group Europe. The formation of BPI Group Europe provides an opportunity to better serve our customer base with premium quality products that leverage the century-long legacy of innovation and leadership of the Remy brand and the aftermarket technology, engineering and manufacturing expertise of Brake Parts Inc.
